Registered Massage Therapy
At Camden Spa we offer a wide range of massage therapy options designed to specifically address your needs. Whatever your goal, one of our experienced registered therapists can develop a treatment that is right for you by combining the different techniques and modalities listed below into a 30, 45, 60 or 90 minute session.
- SWEDISH MASSAGE - Is the most popular type of massage. It can be performed using gentle or deep pressure to improve circulation, ease muscle aches and tension, improve flexibility and create relaxation. Swedish massage employs five different movements: long gliding strokes, kneading of individual muscles, friction, tapping and vibration and is the foundation for all other types of massages offered at Camden Spa including sports, deep tissue and aromatherapy.
- REFLEXOLOGY - The therapist applyies focussed pressure to specific zones and reflexes on the hands and feet to stimulate corresponding body parts, glands and organs. By working with the body's nervous system, the aim is to achieve a state of homeostasis, the point at which our internal systems are working at a stable and balanced level. Reflexology can help remove stress and improve relaxation, enhance circulation and normalize the body's own metabolism naturally. It can be done as its own treatment or incorporated into other types of healing modalities.
- CRANIOSACRAL - Using a soft touch the therapist will release restrictions in the craniosacral system (comprised of the membranes and cerebro-spinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord) to improve the functioning of the central nervous system. By complementing the body’s natural healing processes, CST is increasingly used as a preventive health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease, and its effectiveness to treat a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction, including: migrane headaches, chronic neck and back pain, traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries, post surgincal dysfunction, scoliosis, and chronic fatigue to name a few.
- PREGNANCY MASSAGE - Therapeutic massage promoting better function of muscles and joints, improving circulation and overall body tone, and decreasing mental and physical fatigue which allows expectant mothers to relax. Pregnancy massage is usually begun during the 2nd or 3rd trimester to relieve sciatic nerve pain and multiple other conditions experienced during the later stages of pregnancy. Massage can be enjoyed all throughout the pregnancy unless specifically prohibited by your doctor.
- POST-NATAL MASSAGE - With your doctor's approval, resuming regular massage therapy shortly after delivery can aid recovery by increasing circulation and cleansing toxins like lactic acid from muscles. This is not a concern for breast feeding as lactic acid is a natural by-product of the body.
- LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE - The lymph vessels collect dead cells, waste products, bacteria, viruses, inorganic substances, water and fats. By performing lymphatic drainage massage, we can stimulate the opening of the initial lymphatic and increase the volume of lymph flow by as much as 20 times. With an increase of lymph flow, immune function is increased, harmful substances are removed from the tissues and neutralized in the nodes. It has also been shown that an increase in lymph flow stimulates an increased production of lymphocytes- enhancing immune function and increasing energy levels. Lymphatic drainage massage is also useful when dealing with sports injuries. After the initial inflammatory stage has passed, lymphatic work can be applied. This will help to clear the tissue of debris, and help to reduce the minor edema that sometimes occurs after deep massage. Continued applications of lymphatic drainage while the client is healing can help to enhance the tissue regeneration process by keeping the tissue as healthy as possible.
- AROMATHERAPY - is a form of alternative medicine that uses volatile liquid plant materials, known as essential oils (EOs), and other aromatic compounds from plants for the purpose of affecting a person's mood or health. Essential oils/aromatherapy can be incorporated into any treatment at the client's request or to achieve a specific treatment goal. However, for some skin sensitivities, pregnancy, or a general aversion to smells, it is contraindicated to use essential oils.

REIKI is a Japanese holistic, light-touch, energy-based modality. Working as a support mechanism to the body, Reiki re-establishes a normal energy flow of ki (life force energy) throughout the system, which in turn can enhance and accelerate the body's innate healing ability. Through a series of hand positions either directly on or just above the body, the energy worker allows for the flow of energy through their body. The client’s body then draws off the amount of energy that is required. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing. The simplicity of a Reiki session may raise some skepticism, however, after experiencing it, many clients keep coming back for more of those relaxing feelings.
ENERGY BALANCING MASSAGE
A unique healing method using continuous movement which engages the body’s energy centres via its natural energy circuits. The key principle is that energy cannot be created or destroyed, thus the idea is to break down energy blocks so that energy can be freed up for use by beneficial systems in the body.
Treatment and Benefits
The balancing process may cause the patient to experience a wide variety of physical sensations as the energy in their body is released and then re-integrated.
